Installing a Generator in the Intrepid Gasser and EB

Postby cbergen » Wed Apr 11, 2007 8:57 am

We have made a mount to facilitate installation the generator system put together by Raja Bortcosh (rbort on the Internet) available at http://mysite.verizon.net/vze49gsg/.

This system should only be installed AFTER getting your gear mesh set properly. New frames already have slots installed in the frames to allow for moving the mount to follow gear mesh adjustments.

Image

Start off by installing the template included in your kit using the existing 3X8 SHCS securing the triple bearing block. On the Intrepid Gassers this does require removing the Collective arms (popsicle sticks) temporarily.

Image

Drill the 2 upper holes using an 1/8th" drill bit. Deburr the holes and carefully blow the dust off. You can now remove the template and reinstall the popsicle sticks. Reinstall the 2 3X8 SHCS into the triple bearing block with loctite.

Install the lower metal coupler onto the top of the start shaft. Ensure the start shaft does NOT stick up past flush inside the coupler. Use the supllied 3X3 setscrews provided with your mount kit and NOT the slotted setscrews that come with the generator. Use blue loctite on these screws as well.

Install the generator onto the mount using the 4 ea supplied SHCS, and blue loctite. Note that 2 of the holes are closer to the center.

Place the rubber connector onto the lower coupler and place the generator and mount system onto the rubber coupler.

Install the 2 SHCS to secure the mount to the frames, route the wiring carefully to avoid chafing or catching the controls, and enjoy free power gasser flying!!

Installing the Generator mount

Postby Calman » Sun May 06, 2007 7:47 pm

Hi
Looking at the install instructions the only reason to take off the "paddle pop" stick is to use the template to drill the mount holes, is there any other way of marking or drilling those holes as it looks like a bit of work to remove and reinstall the "paddle pop" stick. Or am I worried about a job that looks worse than it is.
Thanks Steve

Steve,

The hardest part of removing the popsicle stick is being careful when prying it off of the collective axle. Use a small flat tip screwdriver, place it right next to the axle under the popsicle stick, alternating sides until it pops off.

Any new frames or new kits purchased, already have the needed slots to incorporate the generator, so this whole step is then unnecessary.

Chris
Thanks for your help, I will have a go at it soon then, great idea on having the holes already in the new frames as the generator is the way to go.
Cheers Steve
